Many celebrities have lived in Isla Verde's posh areas. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, world boxing champion Wilfredo Gómez owned a discotheque (which was shaped like a Flying Saucer) in Isla Verde.

The San Juan Metro Area is considered to encompass the Puerto Rico municipalities of Carolina, Santurce, San Juan, Bayamon, Guaynabo, Hato Rey, plus other smaller municipalities.

Most of the temporary corporate housing and vacation rental condominium apartments are located in the condominium housing zones of Isla Verde and El Condado.  Isla Verde is considered to be the best tourist strip in Puerto Rico, with El Condado ranking a close second.  These tourist zones offer a variety of condominium apartments offering varying amounts of amenities from economy accommodations to luxury accommodations.

Isla Verde is only 5 minutes from El Condado, 10 minutes from Old San Juan and 40 minutes from El Yunque Rain Forrest.  The proximity to these areas and hotels such as the World famous El San Juan Hotel and Casino, the Ritz Carlton Hotel and Casino, Inter-Continental Hotel and Casino, the Condado Plaza Hotel and Casino, the Marriot Hotel and Casino, and the many restaurants and shops in the area, along with the beautiful long and expansive wide beach, make Isla Verde the most popular place to stay.   Isla Verde is also only five minutes from the Luis Munoz Marin San Juan International Airport. Generally, when tourists say they vacationed in San Juan, were most likely in Isla Verde, El Condado or Old San Juan.

Imagine living in a large city and having a beautiful beach as your back yard. That is exactly what the million or so residents in the San Juan metro area enjoy every day, and share with our thousands of visitors. There is no need to drive away from town to enjoy a perfect tropical day at the beach. The weather averages a warm 82 degrees during the day year round.

Isla Verde Beach is actually a series of beaches that stretch for miles in front of luxury resorts and posh high-rise residential apartments, restaurants and private clubs, guesthouses and private homes and parks.

It is a tranquil place during the week, but on the weekends Isla Verde really comes alive. Beach lovers stream in from every corner of the city and from every major hotel in the area to get some sun, splash in the sea, picnic or party with family and friends, play beach volleyball, walk along the sandy shores, or simply have fun. There is no shortage of places to eat or drink. Many hotels and restaurants have bars and grills with access to the beach.

The more adventurous go parasailing, bodysurfing, water skiing and jet skiing or participate in many of the other water sports offered by the hotels and seaside shops.

Depending on the hour of the day and the day of the week, Isla Verde can be anything from a solitary stretch of glistening sand to a Coney Island crowd of happy sun worshippers, but it is always a delight.
