Puerto
Rico among best five diving destinations
SAN
JUAN (EFE) Feb. 2006 - Readers of Scuba Diving
magazine this week chose Puerto Rico as one of the
top five destinations for scuba diving in the
Caribbean and the Atlantic.
This
information was provided on Wednesday by Terestella
Gonález Denton, Tourism Company's executive
director. She added, "it is great news for
Puerto Rico as well as for diving, which is a sport
that has become more popular in the last few years.
"We
have long been watching a great variety of
adventurous tourists arrive with the intention to
explore our fascinating shores and the marvels that
can be found hiding beneath the sea. Today we see
them going from place to place to practice
diving," added the press release"
The
executive director explained that Puerto Rico was
also chosen among the top 20 destinations in the
general diving category, which includes several
forms of diving.
González
Denton said the island was number 17, followed by
Cancún, Mexico, and the Grand Bahama, numbers 18,
19, and 20, respectively.
This
news has great value for Puerto Rico, since it was
the readers themselves who evaluated our beaches. We
are being recommended by thousands of diving
amateurs who read this international magazine. We
are sure it will generate a lot more interest in us
as a destination. This distinction will generate
more tourism activity in Puerto Rico, according to
the executive director of the Tourism Company.
